During the growing seasons, we not only grow our flowers to be sold fresh but also so that we have flowers to dry. Once the flowers and greens reach their peak harvesting stage we pick them. Extra or unsold flowers that we find good for drying or pressing will be set aside. We then begin the intricate process of drying and pressing each flower. Some are gently hung upside-down to air-dry, and some are placed between layers of absorbent blotting paper and pressed to preserve their shape and color. It's a labor-intensive but rewarding task, as we watch the flowers transform from fresh and fluid to beautifully preserved keepsakes. The resulting dried and pressed flowers are then stored away for future use.
We use many in our winter and early spring workshops, for seasonal offerings such as Thanksgiving Centerpieces, weddings & events, and custom orders. We do offer DIY Bulk Buckets of dried flowers for those looking to create something independently and for those looking to use them in their wedding. We also offer flower heads and flower petals for those looking to craft or bake with just those parts.
The last type of dried flower we utilize here is for edible purposes. We annually and perennially grow many different edible flowers. Some are dried for uses such as tea, cake decoration, medicinal purposes, and incorporating into baking or cooking. We offer a Flower Tasting, DIY Tea Mixing, and an informational class on different edible flowers and how to prepare them.
